The Mt Hutt Memorial Hall (built in 1957) underwent a major transformation in 2011, creating a new focus for the Methven town and community.
The project architects (Fulton Ross) utilised the existing Mt Hutt Memorial Hall and transformed the building for all seasons. Materials were kept simple but strong to connect with the alpine and rural traditions.
An upgrade of the existing hall and function spaces (now marketed as the Mt Hutt Function Centre) provides a modern versatile space for live performances, conferences, weddings & functions.
A series of new buildings were built adjoining the eastern side of the existing hall to house the NZ Alpine & Agriculture Encounter, New Zealand Ski Heritage Museum as well as an 80 seat cinema and learning facilities.
A modern glass extension out the front of the existing hall now houses the Methven i-SITE Visitor Centre, Mt Hutt snow desk, Methven Travel and office space for local businesses.
A walkway wrapped around the old Memorial Hall now houses the Mt Hutt Memorial Hall Art Gallery and Hall of Memories.
