Methven Art Gallery Exhibition – Charles Pickworth

Charles Pickworth Exhibition - Methven Art Gallery

Charles Pickworth was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, and brought up in Central Otago, and later in Oamaru. In spite of contracting polio at the age of four and also having asthma, he worked at a variety of jobs. However, painting was always an interest, and over the years Charles came to realise that this was what he wanted to do most of all. He is a self-taught artist and has worked through the years gaining in confidence until he can now paint full time.

He prefers painting plein-air and travels frequently searching out new subjects, specialising now-a-days in South Island scenes. He paints mostly in oils, occasionally in acrylics and has the knack of capturing the mood and wonderful range of colours in New Zealand’s South Island scenery.

He has a bright and enthusiastic nature and enjoys sharing his love of painting with established and budding artists.

He has been painting for thirty – five years.

Charles is also an art tutor
